The Connaught — Carlos Place, Mayfair

Some hotels we know by reputation; others we truly understand only after we check in. The Connaught belongs to the latter category—and after years of exploring the world’s finest hotels, I found something rare there: a sense of emotion.

Nothing is ever perfect—there are always minor tweaks to be made, as there are everywhere, even in the most legendary hotels. But here, the human touch makes up for everything, and that’s precisely what sets apart a remarkable hotel from one you’ll never forget.

First, the architecture—that quintessentially British spirit, characterized by wood paneling, just-right proportions, and an attention to detail that never tries to overdo it. You can feel the history of the place with every step, yet nothing feels heavy.

Then there’s the dining—Hélène Darroze creates incredible cuisine here, with a rare precision, and Jean-Georges rounds out this gastronomic offering with the same high standards. The Connaught Bar, for its part, remains an absolute benchmark—one of those places where, over a single drink, you understand why Mayfair has always been so captivating.

But what truly sets The Connaught apart is its staff. From the front desk staff to the concierges—their welcome is marked by incredible elegance and attention to detail, transforming a stay into a memory. That is true luxury: not the absence of flaws, but the constant presence of human care that makes everything else secondary.

A legendary spot, yes—but above all, a place to experience and one that stands the test of time.
